Project 1:

In the first project of Building Science 2, we are required to choose a building around us and conduct a report about an analysis and research of its acoustic and lighting performance. Throughout the project, we are required to analyse critically about the building's lighting and acoustic factor.
Chosen building - Lantern Hotel, Petaling Street

Reflection
In this project, I had a better understanding about how lighting and acoustic works in a building and i believe that this will benefit me a lot when I am this career. A good acoustic and lighting consideration in a building makes the building perform better and more functional towards its usage. More than that, I've learnt in how to record, tabulate and analyse the acoustic and lighting quality in the building.

Project Two:
The project two of the module requires us to integrate the understanding of principles lighting and acoustic design into our Design Studio project. The final project for mine is different than others which is an elderly community center in PJS7, Bandar Sunway.

We are required to produce an A2 presentation board for both Lighting and Acoustic integrated design.

Reflection
I think that this project is extremely useful for us. In this project, I had the opportunity to integrate lighting and acoustic study into my design studio project which allows me to learn and integrate it immediately, which i think its a very strong way to learn and explore something. As my design is for elderly, acoustic and lighting design is very important to them due to their age and health, with this project, i am able to be more specific in designing a functional home for the elderly.

Project: Contextual Architecture Study and Case Study paper

This project is driven by Architectural Design Studio 4 as an approach to support student's design through extensive research within the framework of Contextual Architecture in Asia.

Objectives of Project:
- To integrate architectural design and research through a specific case study, supporting student's design through extensive research within the framework of Contextual Architecture in Asia.

- To introduce students to activities which culminate in the production of the study; collection; indexing and evaluation of information; analysis of information; compilation and organization of study; writing of study; assembly of illustration and text; design of layout; binding and presentation.

Learning Outcomes
- Analyse and discuss in depth on the selected research area based on the selected building, within the framework of contextual architecture.

- identify significant elements of Contextual Architecture through investigation on the selected building.

- Produce, orally and in writing, a critical interpretation of Contextual Architecture of the selected building.

- A paper (2000 words, double spaced)

- A power point presentation 10minutes which contains an outline of the paper covering key issues and themes explored as well as bibliography.

Research title: Application of Traditional Kampung House feature into the Deck House to achieve Thermal Comfort

Contextual Architecture Study Presentation Board

Reflection
In this project, I had chosen thermal comfort as my main direction of research is because that i think that achieving thermal comfort in our country is very important due to our hot and humid climate, which I think that will be very useful for my future studies and work. I found that Architecture's potential is unlimited but even though as technology blooms, we shall not neglect what people in the past has done and left for us. Their numerous explorations and findings became the foundation of us at nowadays to go further with lesser obstacles.

The ways that Architect Choo Gim Wah has truly inspired me in my future designs in terms of thermal studies, which I think that is very useful and made my design a more complete and functional design.

More than that, Ive learnt not only all these knowledge but skill and technique in report writing and presentation boards designing, which literally benefits me in my future study in every aspect.

Studio 4 Final Project- PJS Elderly Community Centre

Introduction
The final project in Design Studio 4 requires us to design an Elderly Community Centre in a given site: PJS 7, Bandar Sunway in a clustered typology architectural form. Certain requirement has been given to be followed while designing.

Project Requirements:
Usage    :  Centre for the Elderly
Building Siting   : Setbacks as per authority requirements (where applicable)
Building Height   :  2 - 3 Storeys.
Approximate Floor Area : 800 sq m. (with the possibility to expand)
Facilities   : To provide a Mixed-Use Facility to accommodate:

a) Entry , lobby, Exit
b) Leisure Areas
c) Common Kitchen + services
d) Common Dining Areas
e) Reading Rooms
f) Therapy Room
g) Medical / Quarantine Room
h) Meditation / Prayer Room
i) Bedrooms (20 pax) + services
j) Caretaker office and accommodation
k) Outdoor Activities

Vehicle    : Guests / Services Access and Parking
Occupants   : Consideration for disabled (wheelchair) access
Public Access   : Consideration to the Public/Private accesses and separation
Pedestrian Circulation  : Consideration of the pedestrian accesses into and around the Site.
Other service facilities to be provided as per required

Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follow:
1. To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design

2. To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with the buildings

3. To emphasize on space planning of clusters of buildings

Learning Outcomes of this Project
1. Apply ideas of environmental sustainability in design

2. Design and create  architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in relation to the basic natural context and existing built context which impact on users’ experiences

3. Combine the environmental needs, the site (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), and the users’ experiences within simple building design in the open landscape/suburban context.

4. Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), modelling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas based on clustered spatial typology.
