Project: 3 Report & Video on Measured Building

Introduction
The report is a document that accompanies the set of drawings for the building that is measured during the semester. Basically, the report will elaborate on the significance of the building being measured from various aspects such as architectural, historical and cultural. In this report, students are required to relate the architecture of the building to its significance, highlighting how the two support the inhabitation of the building. A video documenting the building is required to provide 3D experience of the building.

Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follows:
 To documents the significance of the building to accompany the measured drawings
 To enable students to analyse the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation

Learning Outcomes of this Project
 Explain the application of architectural historic documents
 Describe architectural cultural heritage
 Elaborate the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation

PROJECT TWO : MEASURED DRAWING
Introduction
This project will be carried out throughout the semester where students will be assigned to measure and document a historical / heritage building and translate all the data into a set of drawings and a model. Each group will have to only measure one particular building assigned by the lecturer. Apart from doing the measuring exercise on site, students will also need to do additional research in order to piece together all the important data about the building.

Objectives of Project
This project aims to produce a set of measured drawings of historical buildings or structures in a specific location. A report containing important and historical information of the buildings will complement the drawings. It is an on-site exercise where students are required to execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise

Learning Outcomes of this Project
Upon successful completion of the subject, students will be able to:
 Recommend the appropriate method of architectural historic documentation
 Recognize and recall techniques of measured drawing and documentation
 Explain the as-built building constructions, architectural details and elements
 Interpret historic architectural element, structure and building
 Execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise
 Translate measured data into scaled drawings
 Produce a report on the buildings highlighting its importance and historical significance

Submission Requirement
2 set of A1 sized drawings (one with dimensions and one without dimensions) and
2 sets of A3 sized drawings (both without dimensions) comprising the following;
 Key plan
 Location plan
 Site plan incorporating the roof plan
 Floor plans
 Elevations
 Sections
 Site sections
 Exploded isometric / axonometric
 A physical model to show the construction / structure of the buildings using ONLY balsa wood OR white model boards as either one section OR an open-able full model
 Details – construction, architectural, decorative elements / ornaments (minimum one each)

Module Synopsis
The module Measured Drawing aims to develop an understanding of the principles of building preservation and the method of recording it in three documentation methods  which is Measured Drawings, Written Documentation and Photographic Documentations.
We are divided into groups in different amount of people accordingly to the size and difficulty of the site.

I had been divided to a group of 25 people including me. Our site is the Courthouse Museum located in Batu Gajah, Ipoh.

Module Teaching Objectives

The teaching objectives of the module are:
1. To introduce several methods of documenting historic structures to preserve an accurate record of historic properties that can be used in research and other preservation activities
2. To introduce basic preparation of measured drawings of an approved building or structure to prescribed standard.
Module Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Identify and classify architectural historic structure
2. Recognize and recall architectural historic structure documentation method
3. Recommend the appropriate method of architectural historic documentation
4. Explain the application of architectural historic documentation
5. Recognize and recall techniques of measured drawing and documentation
6. Explain the as-built building constructions, architectural details and elements
7. Describe architectural cultural heritage
8. Execute fieldwork and hands-on measurements
9. Translate measured data into scale drawings

Throughout the module, we will be given a total of three projects:

Project 1 : Sketchbook and Journal
Project 2 : Measured Drawing
