Project 1

Famous People, Familiar Faces

Diagrammatic Abstraction

In a group of five, we are given a building of master architects during the 20th century to study on. Then, we are required to produce the architectural drawings and 10 conceptual models about the essence of the given building.

Group Members
Me, Daniesh Ashik, Chua Jiu Xin, Afrah and Kelvin Yong

Given Building
Frank Lloyd Wright - Robie House

Objectives of project
To investigate and to explore how spaces are created from the making of architectural
elements: architectonics.-solid, planes, lines and frames. Upon completion of the project student should be able to achieve a level of understanding on the works assigned and will be able to apply the idea and concept to their project later. The idea of using pure and diagrammatic models to express the architectural idea would also be in cooperated into this assignment.

Learning Outcomes
1. Ability to identify master architects and their works
2. Understanding basic architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames.
3. Ability to ‘diagram’ and analyse architectural work of selected architect

Reflection

In this project, I realized that doing a case study is not easy. It is not only about googling, taking everything in from the internet. We have to read, study and understand all the things first and then only we extract and highlight all the essence out. After that, I've learnt how to diagram my ideas out instead of explaining using words. Drawing diagrams is an universal language in architecture field and I think in this project I have learnt on how to do it.

Project 2a

Picnic Pavilion

The aim of this project is to generate structure, form and space through architectural conceptualisation (which relates to project 1), with the emphasis on the user requirement, ergonomics and site responding to develop an architectural proposition. Students will be shown the importance of using the art of crafting and making: drawing(s) and model(s) as a critical design tool as part of the design process.
Duration - 4 weeks

Amelia Rose Earhart - Pilot

Reflection
In this project I had learnt how to develop and translate concepts and character into a design idea. Besides that, I've also used the ergonimic studies I have learnt during last semester in my design,

Project 2b

Beach House - The Retreat

In this project, we are required to continue study about the character of our last project and design a beach house for him/her. The beach house should fit what she needs and what she wants not bigger than 150m3

My client is Amelia Rose Earhart and my concept of her beach house is "BREAKFREE". This concept is about breaking free from her past and breaking free from a norm or tradition.

Reflection
After so much efforts I've put into this project, I have learnt on creating, designing and organizing spaces. I've tried to translate my idea into my design, using the site context that I have and creating a space that Amelia wants.
